Introducing Broadway® Ultra: A New Era in Weed Control for Winter Wheat and Tritical

Corteva Agriscience has unveiled Broadway® Ultra, a cutting-edge herbicide designed to tackle a broad spectrum of grass and broad-leaved weeds in winter wheat and triticale. Building upon the legacy of its predecessor, Broadway® Star, this new formulation incorporates mesosulfuron-methyl alongside pyroxsulam, enhancing its efficacy and broadening its weed control spectrum.🔬 Active Ingredients and Mode of Action

Broadway® Ultra combines two potent active ingredients:Pyroxsulam (140 g/kg): A well-established herbicide known for its effectiveness against a variety of grass weeds, including ryegrass, brome species, wild oats, and annual meadow grass.Mesosulfuron-methyl (140 g/kg): A sulfonylurea herbicide that complements pyroxsulam by targeting broad-leaved weeds such as chickweed, sow thistle, and shepherd’s purse.

This combination provides a synergistic effect, offering superior control over a wide range of weeds in a single application.

Key Benefits

Broad Spectrum Weed Control: Effectively manages both grass and broad-leaved weeds, including challenging species like annual meadow grass, ryegrass, brome, wild oats, cleavers, speedwells, mayweed, charlock, bur chervil, and volunteer oilseed rape. Extended Application Window: Can be applied from 1st January to 15th May, providing flexibility in timing applications to suit varying weather conditions and crop growth stages. Enhanced Crop Safety: Formulated with a safener (cloquintocet-mexyl) to protect the crop during application, ensuring high levels of crop safety when used as directed. Rainfastness: Becomes rainfast within one hour of application, reducing the risk of wash-off and ensuring consistent efficacy.Tank Mix Compatibility: Compatible with a wide range of ALS-inhibitor broad-leaved weed herbicides, allowing for tailored weed management strategies⚖️ Comparison with Other Herbicides

Compared to other herbicides available in the UK market, Broadway® Ultra offers several advantages:

Pyroxsulam-Based Herbicides: While effective against grass weeds, these formulations may have limited activity on certain broad-leaved weeds. Broadway® Ultra's inclusion of mesosulfuron-methyl expands its spectrum to include more challenging broad-leaved species.

Mesosulfuron-Methyl-Based Herbicides: These products are effective against broad-leaved weeds but may not provide adequate control over grass weeds. Broadway® Ultra's dual-action formulation ensures comprehensive weed control.

Other Post-Emergence Herbicides: Some alternatives may require multiple applications to achieve the same level of control that Broadway® Ultra offers in a single pass, potentially increasing labor and application costs.

Application Guidelines

Application Rate: Apply at 100 g/ha in combination with an approved adjuvant.

Optimal Timing: Apply during periods of active weed growth when weeds are small (1–3 leaves) for best results.

Water Volume: Use 100–400 liters of water per hectare to ensure thorough coverage.

Spray Quality: Use medium spray quality as defined by BCPC standards.

Nozzle Type: Apply using standard or low drift nozzles to minimize spray drift and ensure effective application.

Buffer Zone: Maintain a 5-meter reducible buffer zone to protect non-target areas

Ideal Use Cases: Broadway® Ultra is particularly beneficial in the following scenarios:

Late-Drilled Crops: Following crops like sugar beet or potatoes where residual herbicides may not have been applied.

Lighter Soils: Where traditional herbicide programs may be less effective.

Wet Autumn Conditions: In seasons where residual herbicide efficacy is compromised due to adverse weather conditions.

Integrated Weed Management: As part of a comprehensive weed control strategy, combining with other herbicides to manage herbicide resistance and enhance efficacy.

Availability

Broadway® Ultra will be available for purchase in the UK starting spring 2025. For more information or to place an order, contact Corteva Agriscience's UK hotline at 0800 689 8899 or email ukhotline@corteva.com.

Introducing Broadway® Ultra: Advanced Weed Control for Winter Wheat and Triticale

Corteva Agriscience has recently launched Broadway® Ultra, a next-generation herbicide specifically formulated to deliver robust control of a wide range of grass and broad-leaved weeds in winter wheat and winter triticale crops. This innovative product combines two powerful active ingredients — pyroxsulam and mesosulfuron-methyl — providing growers with a versatile and highly effective solution.

Key Benefits of Broadway® Ultra

Broad Spectrum Weed Control: Broadway® Ultra effectively targets problematic grass weeds such as ryegrass, brome species, wild oats, and annual meadow grass, alongside challenging broad-leaved weeds including chickweed, cleavers, mayweed, and volunteer oilseed rape. This comprehensive spectrum helps protect yields and reduce crop competition.

Flexible Application Window: The product can be applied from early January through mid-May, giving farmers flexibility to treat weeds during different growth stages and weather conditions.

Enhanced Crop Safety: Featuring a safener ingredient, Broadway® Ultra minimizes crop stress and damage, allowing it to be safely used during critical crop development phases.

Rainfastness and Residual Control: The formulation becomes rainfast within an hour, reducing the risk of wash-off and ensuring consistent performance. It also provides residual weed control, helping to suppress later-emerging weeds.

Tank Mix Compatibility: Broadway® Ultra is compatible with a wide range of other herbicides, enabling tailored weed management programs that can address local weed pressure and resistance concerns.

How Broadway® Ultra Compares to Other Herbicides

While other pyroxsulam-based products are effective against grass weeds, they often have limited activity on broad-leaved weeds. Conversely, some mesosulfuron-methyl herbicides target broad-leaved species but lack robust grass weed control. Broadway® Ultra’s unique combination provides growers with a single solution that covers both weed types efficiently, reducing the need for multiple applications.

Additionally, many alternative herbicides require repeated treatments to achieve similar levels of control, increasing costs and labor. Broadway® Ultra’s potent dual-action formula helps minimize the number of passes needed, saving time and resources.

Ideal Usage Scenarios

Late-Drilled Crops: Especially useful where residual herbicides may not have been applied or have been compromised due to weather.

Light Soils: Provides effective control where some other herbicides struggle.

Wet Autumns: Helps manage weed pressure when traditional herbicide efficacy is reduced.

Resistance Management: Fits well into integrated weed management strategies aiming to prevent or manage herbicide resistance.

Application Tips for Best Results

Apply when weeds are small and actively growing (1-3 leaf stage).

Use appropriate water volumes (100-400 L/ha) and spray quality (medium droplet size) to ensure thorough coverage.

Follow label guidance on nozzle types and buffer zones to protect non-target areas.

Summary:

Broadway® Ultra represents a significant advancement in UK crop protection, delivering broad-spectrum weed control with the convenience of a single, reliable application. Its versatility and efficacy support sustainable farming by helping farmers protect yields while managing herbicide resistance. Adding Broadway® Ultra to your crop protection portfolio can enhance productivity and streamline weed control efforts.
